Project Description

The national promotion of the Blue Economy, development of the marine spatial plan, and transition to co-management regimes for fisheries all depend on informed stakeholder participation in the success of the fisheries. A key obstacle to effective stakeholder involvement is a lack of ability to identify and access information regarding the fish species in our waters that make up the artisanal fishery.

With this project, Mr. John Nevill developed an innovative solution to support national initiatives in marine management and created Seacitizens A website providing a fish identification database. Whether you are: a fisher or fishery technician working to improve fishery monitoring and co-management; a diver or sports/leisure fisher seeking to identify species you have encountered; a student or researcher undertaking marine or fishery-related studies; or just a consumer who would like to know the name of the fish they bought at the market that day, the Seatizens website can support and enrich your activities.
