Under the UNDP Climate Promise Initiative, youth and gender have been identified as critical to their inclusion in all the sectors of the NDC. A youth and gender specialist has been recruited to ensure that Seychelles’ aspirations for all sectors take into consideration groups seen as particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
Daniel Etongo, the selected consultant points to the fisheries sector, ” there are more men than women working in this industry. There are some sectors that are really gender biased and we are identifying these sectors and working on reducing such bias. In the aspect of creating green jobs for agriculture, we are encouraging both women and women to engage in agriculture as a form of livelihood, because this has a lot of benefits in terms of income and climate.”
