The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and its Regional Implementation Team (RIT) are releasing multiple calls for Letters of Inquiry (LoIs) for projects that address the conservation of biodiversity in light of climate change in the Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot, and that meet the criteria set out in these calls.

Call for large grants

  • Opening Date: 5 August 2024 
  • Closing Date: 20 September 2024, 11:59 pm (Eastern Time, GMT-4)
  • Grant Size: Large Grant (>US$50,000)

Call for small grants

  • Opening Date: 5 August 2024 
  • Closing Date: 13 September 2024, 11:59 pm (Madagascar Time)
  • Grant Size: Small Grant (<US$50,000)

How to apply?

Read the detailed instructions, criteria and restrictions in the calls for letters of inquiry.

  • For Large Grants: Submit your application in English or French through the electronic portal, ConservationGrants. If you do not have a ConservationGrants account, you will need to create a new account. If you encounter any technical difficulties with ConservationGrants, please email conservationgrants@conservation.org.
  • For Small Grants: The preferred option to apply is by filling in the online form directly :

In case of poor Internet connection, please download the letter of inquiry and budget templates below and submit your LOI as a Word document and your budget as an Excel document by email to cepfproposals@iucn.nl with the following subject: LOI_2/2024/SG_CEPF_”country”/”your organisation”.  For example: LOI_2/2024/SG_CEPF_MADA/IUCN NL.

Any alteration to the LOI and the budget templates will make the application ineligible. LOI submitted past the deadline or in any other language will not be eligible.

Regional Implementation Team

CEPF has enlisted a consortium of nongovernmental organizations to be its regional implementation team (RIT) in the hotspot. Coordinated by IUCN NL, the RIT includes SAF/FJKM for Madagascar, ID-ONG for Comoros, FORENA for Mauritius and SeyCCAT for Seychelles. These organizations are working with CEPF to implement a five-year conservation strategy for the hotspot and build local civil society capacity. The RIT can be reached via the following email address: cepfproposals@iucn.nl.

***Addendum : KBA SYC50 Aldabra Special Reserve has been added to the lists of KBAs eligible for the call for letters of inquiry for Seychelles’ large and small grants; it excludes the terrestrial part of Aldabra Special Reserve (SYC50), which is not eligible for this call.
