What is SeyCCAT looking for?

SeyCCAT is looking for interns in a variety of disciplinary backgrounds willing to contribute to a small but dynamic conservation trust fund.

What to expect?

We are flexible and can tailor an internship that works for you and for us. These positions typically run for a minimum period of 3 months and can last up to 12 months. It can be work from home or in-office but requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. All interns are provided with a thorough 2-day induction and work directly with the CEO who will provide mentoring and supervision unless there is interest in a particular project led by a project manager.

While our internships are unpaid, we are happy to partner with educational institutions to provide academic credit and reference letters as is required.

Do I need to live in Seychelles?

No, you do not need to live in Seychelles. SeyCCAT offers internships that can be undertaken remotely. The only challenges are time difference but we usually adjust!

What experience do I need to apply?

You do not need any specific experience but a passion for the marine environment! If you have a particular area of interest, such as law, blue carbon, sustainable finance, please inform the CEO so this can be taken into consideration in the allocation of tasks.

What type of work will I be doing?

The tasks can be very varied, ranging from social media content creation to producing information sheets. Work is assigned to make the most of your existing strengths and interests but you’ll also get the chance to learn new skills.

How much work will there be?

You are expected to commit on average 10 hours a week to SeyCCAT. There are busier times than others, and workload can fluctuate depending on the different phases of the Blue Grants Fund.

Are there different intern roles?

Yes, internships are tailored to your strengths and interests. It also depends on the duration of the internship.

How long is the internship?

The internship is for a minimum period of 1 month and can be extended for a 12 month period. 1 month is a minimum to get the best understanding of the organisation and place you in the best position to contribute. Internships for shorter periods are possible but check with the CEO if this is being offered at the time you are applying.

Will there be the opportunity to visit the projects?

If you are working remotely then the answer is simple. If you are based in Seychelles, there are opportunities to visit the projects. It all depends on the schedules of the projects and what they can accommodate.

Are there better periods of the year to intern with SeyCCAT?

The answer is yes! The application window of the Blue Grants Fund is SeyCCAT’s six busiest weeks of the year. We always need extra hands during this period. This is usually in the following time frame (April to June).

Is it a paid internship?

Internships are not paid. Any paid opportunities will be advertised through the various channels locally and internationally.

How many other interns are there?

This varies. Generally, there is a minimum of 2 interns at any one time. You do have an opportunity to work together and are all connected via WhatsApp.
